The CCC is informed by Adlerian Counseling Theory with an emphasis on school functioning with attention to barriers that mental health, emotional, and behavioral issues can post to performance in school, home and community contexts.
Adlerian counseling intervention can use individual, group, parent/teacher consultation, and family formats with the goals of:
- Building relationships with individuals, parents, teachers, and the community
- Assessment – understand the child and their behavior within the major contexts of school, family, and community.
- Intervention- assist the child, teacher(s), and parents in developing new skills and behaviors to overcome existing challenges.
- Integration – assist the child, teacher(s)
The CCC uses a holistic model that supports overall wellness, beyond remediating deficits and pathology, within the large social contexts of:
- school/classroom and work environments;
- peer relationships and interaction, family relationships and interaction;
- community support and interactions; and
- spiritual/religious beliefs and practices
All assessments and interventions are designed to support the student with collaboration and consultation with teachers; and collaboration and consultation with parents
Collaboration and consultation to support IEP and existing family-based and behavioral supports.
